Truck driver needed for Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Pantry — Can you help?

“Our Pantry is in need of a driver to collect our food order from Feeding America, our regional food bank in Tampa,” says Tom Bullaro, co-director of the Pantry with his wife Anita.

“Our drivers leave Wimauma about 6 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays, driving to Warehouse Six in the back of the Tampa Distribution Center at: 1212 N. 50th St., just off Rt. 60.

We find that our fastest route is to drive north on U.S. 301, hooking onto Rt. 60 in Brandon.  It’s just a few miles farther.  We leave early to beat the traffic, so it’s not a long ride.”

According to Bullaro, drivers are usually back in Wimauma about 9 a.m., when they unload the truck with a team of other volunteers waiting to help store food where it needs to go.  When the truck is empty, the driver then picks up surplus foods from a few local markets and brings these foods back to be unloaded.

The Pantry truck is a large refrigerated truck that holds about 10 pallets of food.  The driver needs to have some experience driving a large truck, but does not need any special certification.

“Each of our volunteers plays an important role in helping to feed the hungry in our community,” says Bullaro.  “Our truck drivers, however, are our unsung heroes.  Our Pantry would cease to exist without the dedication of those who transport our food from Feeding America to our home in Wimauma.

“If you would like more information, please call me at: (813) 741-2000,” he says.  “And thank you.”
