Pantry walk-in refrigerator finally in place

For the longest while, Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Pantry has had a walk-in refrigerator-freezer on its wish list.

“Finally, we have our walk-in unit,” says Tom Bullaro, co-director of the Pantry, adding that it is about 20 feet by 8 feet.  “We plugged it in this week and are thrilled to have it.”

Having a big space to store produce means first, that Bullaro and his team can bring back more produce from the regional food bank, Feeding Tampa Bay, when they go each week.  The food will remain safe and nutritious until it is shared with families on Saturdays.

Secondly, having more refrigerated space means Bullaro can take advantage of big sales that occur from time to time.  In the past, the Pantry had been unable to buy in bulk because of insufficient space to store the food.

“We thank all of you who contributed to the Pantry building expansion fund,” says Bullaro.  “Monies for this walk-in refrigerator came directly from that fund.”
