Multiplying your donations to Project Hunger

As many readers know, the monthly Project Hunger collections at Prince of Peace and Our Lady of Guadalupe are run by The Knights of Columbus.  These donations are turned over to Our Lady’s Pantry to purchase food from our regional food bank in Tampa.  The food is then given to families on Saturday mornings.

“Donations of food and money are collected before each Mass on the first weekend of the month at Prince of Peace and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Churches,” says Don Mangers, Grand Knight, Council 7282, Prince of Peace.  “In total, these donations from parishioners amounted to $44,000 last year!

“Of that total $33,043 came from Prince of Peace, with the balance from Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Parishioners also donated more than 8,700 pounds of food donated in the last 12 months.”

As an organization, the Knights of Columbus, worldwide, is dedicated to helping others in need.  For this reason, they recognize outstanding efforts from local chapters.  In this case, the organization awarded Council 7282 a bonus of $500 for their stunning success of Project Hunger.  These monies in turn, were given to Our Lady’s Pantry to purchase even more food.

Tom Bullaro, a Knight himself, and co-director of Our Lady’s Pantry, says that Jesus asked us to feed the hungry and the Knights of Columbus has taken this directive seriously.

“From the Pantry’s beginning in 1999, they have been the hands that make Project Hunger donations possible.  We thank them for their efforts over many years.”
